"Miniature On Copper - Bouquet(s) Of Flowers, 19th Century"
A set of five miniatures on copper, each depicting a generous bouquet of flowers in an antique vase resting on a stone pedestal. The exuberance of the colors and the variety of the foliage are representative of the work of mid-19th-century miniaturists. The frame is made of blackened wood, and the gilt brass gallery is marked with a geometric frieze on the inner edge. The deliberate crackling of the paint accentuates the antique effect of the subject. Each piece bears the signature "Gio," a probable abbreviation of a Giovanni or Giorgio, a name unfortunately unknown to me, but for whom the Bénézit dictionary lists numerous homonyms. It is better to refrain from bidding than to risk a misattribution. They are in very good condition, with no chips or dents. The price indicated (€280) is for one miniature. For the set, further discussion is needed. The following photos show the five pieces together and separately; the choice may be difficult. Mid-19th century.
