Ladislas Kijno (1921-2012) Polish "return From China (1983)" Oil On Canvas 116 X 89 Cm
Ladislas KIJNO (1921-2012) Polish "Return from China (1983)" Oil on canvas 116 x 89 cm Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist by his friend Albert Decourt. Ladislas Kijno was born in Warsaw. Of Polish and French heritage, he initially studied philosophy in Lille. His encounter with Germaine Richier definitively drew him to painting. Physical and spiritual travel is a key element of his work. By connecting with the civilizations he encountered, he supported his metaphysical quest "for the profound secret of the universe." The painting we are presenting comes from his journey to China in the early 1980s, alongside the lyrical abstraction artist Chu Teh Chun. This trip gave birth to the "Return from China" cycle, emblematic of the artist and which would be the subject of several exhibitions including one at the Royal Riding School of Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1985. Our work then concentrates the essentials of Kijno: abstraction, the quest, the vaporization of colors with glycero-spray, the ovoid forms which are so dear to him.
