A Port scene, animation around a sailing boat
Pencil on paper Signed LW (?) Bottom right
13 x 20.5 cm
Framed : 27 x 34.5 cm
This beautiful drawing is highly characteristic of the first half of the nineteenth century.
Its subject matter and style are reminiscent of the paintings and drawings of Eugène Isabey (1803–1886), whose favourite subjects were boats and the activities surrounding them. This drawing is clearly from the same period as this artist's works.
The signature on this drawing is clear, but I have no idea how to decipher or identify it. Nevertheless, it is clear that this is the work of a skilled and accomplished artist who has captured a scene of everyday life while evoking the lightness of the masts.
