Vase with Vines by Georges Despret. Destined from a young age for the glassmaking profession by his family environment, Despret combined a scientific approach with a creative sensibility in his art. An engineer by training and a renowned industrialist, his art was the quest for the secret of the glass paste of Ancient Rome (murrhins). Recognition was achieved in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where his works received critical acclaim.
