Gilt Copper Tankard, England, 1873, After A 17th-century German Model
A covered copper tankard or mug with Renaissance-style decoration of figures, a rooster, etc. Our tankard was made in London in 1873 by Franchi and Son, based on a 1605 model held at the British Museum. The Metropolitan Museum also holds an identical model in its collections.
