"19th Century Navy"
A superb 19th-century seascape depicting a scene of sailing on a rough sea. In the foreground, a sailing ship struggles against the powerful waves, its masts bent under the force of the wind, while in the background, other sailing vessels are visible. The palette, dominated by deep blues and silvery grays, accurately conveys the changing light and the vigor of the waves. The highly dynamic composition evokes all the power and majesty of the sea. The work, signed lower right, is presented in a sumptuous gilt frame decorated with leaves and scrolls, which magnificently enhances the maritime scene. Signed S Smith lower right
