A two-panel folding screen, mounted in China in the 19th century, is based on an older Japanese work, probably predating the 19th century. It is in the Kanō school tradition and in a style very typical of the Edo period (1603-1868): golden clouds, warriors on horseback, a boat on the water, and a mountain village. The inscription in Chinese within a cartouche on the edge of the screen means "one who pays homage to an ancient painting." The back of the screen is covered with old paper bearing some damp stains and restorations, visible in the last photograph. Dimensions of the open work: 170 x 186 centimeters.
