"Pair Of Jansem Lamps"
Jean Jansem (1920–2013). Pair of "Palm Tree" lamps. Patinated and cut metal. Work from the 1960s–1970s. Good overall condition – restoration and cleaning recommended. This pair of sculptural lamps, attributed to Jansem, takes the form of a stylized palm tree, entirely made of cut, hammered, and patinated metal. Each lamp consists of a central stem topped with a generous bouquet of metal leaves, cut into wide segments with serrated edges, evoking both tropical lushness and the raw aesthetic of the 1960s. The leaves, layered in several crowns, create a dense and dramatic volume, typical of Jansem's decorative pieces when working with metal. The whole rests on a simple geometric base, reinforcing the contrast between the rigor of the base and the exuberance of the foliage. As they stand, the pair is in good overall condition, with a consistent patina, but requires: • cleaning, • and some minor restoration (adjusting the leaves, checking the electrical system). Once restored, these lamps will regain their sculptural presence, oscillating between decorative art and luminous sculpture. Rare and sought-after pieces, they embody a modernist-poetic aesthetic where nature is reinvented through raw materials.
