French School, 18th Century, Presumed Portrait Of Françoise Martin De Champoléon, H 70 Cm W 57
This portrait of a woman, a work from an 18th-century French school, is the presumed portrait of Françoise Martin de Champoléon, born around 1705.
Daughter of Pierre, Lord of Champoléon, she married François de Manuel, Lord of Locatel (1649-c. 1716), in 1690.
An old label on the back of the painting mentions her genealogy.
She is depicted here in three-quarter profile, richly dressed in a high lace bustier with a ruffled collar and a belt at the bust, highlighting her neck adorned with a pearl necklace and her largely bare shoulders.
The right sleeve of her black coat, decorated with a teardrop brooch worn halfway up her arm, powerfully fills the oval of the portrait.
As a young woman, she has a mischievous and playful air that shines through in her deep gaze and the hint of a smile on her lips.
As is, on its original canvas with restorations.
Later frame.
Dimensions: H 70 cm W 57 cm.
With frame: H 81 cm W 68 cm
