"Religious Clock And Its Louis XIV Style Marquetry Lamp Base"
A Louis XIV style religious clock and its bracket, crafted in Boulle marquetry of gilt brass on a tortoiseshell ground, with rich gilt bronze ornamentation of caryatids, mascarons, and scrolling acanthus leaves. The removable upper section, surmounted by eight flaming urns, is adorned with an openwork balustrade and a floral frieze in gilt bronze. The clock rests on four toupie feet with chased decoration. The glazed door opens to reveal a magnificently chased gilt bronze dial richly decorated with vegetal scrolls, cornucopias, grapes, scallop shells, mascarons, and cherubs. The hours are indicated in Roman numerals on enamel cartouches, encircled by minutes chased in bronze. An enamel cartouche bears the signature of the clockmaker L. Marchand. The eight-day movement has been serviced and is in very good working order. Keys for the movement and glass door are included. This clock is in very good original condition.
