"China - Large Red Lacquered Painted Chest – Shanxi / Northern China - 19th/20th Century."
Large rectangular chest with a double lid, finished in red lacquer (a lucky color used in festive contexts, particularly weddings). Decorated with polychrome paintings of floral motifs, including peonies (symbolizing wealth and prosperity), birds in flight (representing harmony and happiness), and plant stems. The geometric (meandering) design of the edges is typical of painted northern Chinese furniture. The hardware consists of metal latches (front) and brass handles on the sides. Traditional dovetail joints are visible on the sides. It has a very attractive patina (natural wear, stable patina). This type of chest had a utilitarian function, probably used to store textiles, dowry clothing, personal items, or ritual objects. Origin: China. Period: Qing Dynasty - 19th/20th century. Dimensions: Height: 65 cm; Length: 152.5 cm; Width: 55.5 cm. Condition: Very good.
