First Empire Surgeon's Roll Kit Lesueur With Instruments

This beautiful red morocco leather case, decorated with small gilt tools and an engraved silver clasp, is lined with royal blue velvet piped in gold. It bears the inscription stamped in gold: LESUEUR COUTELIER DE LA FACULTÉ DE MÉDECINE RUE DES MATHURINS N.16 PARIS.

It also bears the name of the owner stamped in gold: Mr. GIVAUDAN DMP.

It contains several instruments:
Silver and silver-plated probes.
Scissors with silver handles (tested with a touchstone) and steel blades.
Silver needle instrument with a flat head and forked tip.
Double instrument: curette and hook forceps (opening stuck).
Two folding scalpels with locking mechanisms, made of tortoiseshell and steel, marked GALANTE.

Note:
Nibbles on the tortoiseshell parts of the scalpels. One silver handle of the scissors is broken and glued. This prestigious set must have been given to a wealthy practitioner, highly regarded by his patients!

Very good condition, with wear and patina from use. France, First Empire period, circa 1800.
