"Polychrome Wood Nativity Scene Sculpture From The Late 18th/early 19th Century"
This sculpture depicts a Neapolitan nativity scene figure from the late 18th/early 19th century. The head, hands, and feet are made of polychrome carved wood, while the body is made from a wooden frame covered in hemp. The figure wears original embroidered fabric clothing, with some additions undoubtedly made later, as the base of the dress is partially damaged. This is typical of the miniature haute couture of the period. The entire piece rests on a rectangular base made of wood and pastiglia, entirely decorated in gold, with the upper part of the base decorated with faux marble. These works are well known for their realism and attention to detail, often depicting characters from everyday life.
