"Seaside In Marseille By Adolphe Gaussen 1871-1954"
Magnificent painting by the great painter Adolphe Louis Gaussen, born in 1871 and died in 1954, signed lower right. Measuring 32cm x 54cm plus its original frame, formerly regilded, it depicts bathers in Marseille. Adolphe Gaussen studied painting under Jean-Baptiste Olive at the Marseille School of Fine Arts. He was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1928. He was curator of the Cantini Museum in Marseille. In 1946, he joined the Academy of Marseille. His works are featured in major museums, including the Musée d'Orsay. This painting can be considered one of the finest executed by the artist. Specializing in seascapes, he was, along with Jean-Baptiste Olive and Garibaldi, one of the best representatives of Marseille painting, offering a glimpse of life in bygone days during its heyday.
