This elegant covered vase in polychrome glazed earthenware, made in Desvres in the early 20th century, is of remarkable quality. With its generous baluster shape, it is entirely hand-painted, depicting a lively genre scene in an aristocratic garden, where several figures in period costume are engaged in conversation or an outdoor meal. The decoration is enhanced with rich stylized floral motifs in vibrant shades of cobalt blue, burnt orange, and gold, framed by finely detailed Baroque friezes.
The lid, surmounted by a sculpted motif depicting a fantastical creature or animal, completes the ensemble with panache.
These earthenware pieces are often described as Neo-Louis XV or Rouen style, as they revive antique motifs while reinterpreting them with a more vibrant palette and a more narrative execution. This is not an 18th-century piece, but a historicist recreation from the early 20th century, typical of the Desvres workshops.
Condition: Perfect condition. No restoration, cracks, or chips. The glaze is intact and brilliant.
