Important Regency Period Marquetry Chest Of Drawers In The Shape Of A Tomb
An important, strongly curved commode, veneered with native woods and inlaid with geometric motifs. The top features a beautiful radiating design within a gridded and polylobed border. The front opens with three rows of drawers separated by prominent copper fluting. The piece rests on the floor on strongly shaped uprights. It boasts fine chased and gilt bronze mounts; keyhole escutcheons in the form of foliate cartouches, drop handles supported by chased foliage brackets, and a base adorned with a shell-shaped finial. In good condition, with restoration consistent with age and use of the veneer, and a recent French polish. Early 18th century.
