Biography:
Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier, a goldsmith, designer, sculptor, and architect, was born in Turin. The son of a French goldsmith with whom he began his career, his creations quickly gained favor among the high nobility and European courts. He worked for the French and Portuguese courts, as evidenced by his design for a silver throne intended for King D. João V, as well as for the English and Polish aristocracy.
