After Paris Bordone. Detail Of A Portrait
The painting we are offering here is, to the best of our knowledge, a copy of the face from the large portrait of Hans Ulrich Krafft, painted in 1540 by Paris Bordone, and now in the Louvre. Paris Bordone (1500-1571) was a great artist born in Treviso whose works occupy a prominent place in major Italian collections, as well as in museums worldwide. Dating our small painting is rather difficult. As a precaution, I suggest it is from the 19th century; however, the craquelure appears to be older. The relining and restoration do not make it easy to assess. It remains very well executed and has a great deal of presence, undoubtedly due in part to the close-up perspective. It is presented in a magnificent frame imitating green tortoiseshell (it is actually dyed horn) enhanced with pewter motifs, with a 17th-century profile. It is a high-quality, modern piece.
