"Porcelain Figurine – Marquis De Lafayette – Bourdois & Bloch Factory "
Porcelain Figurine – Marquis de Lafayette – Bourdois & Bloch Manufactory (Courtille, Paris) – 20th Century. A very fine porcelain figurine from Courtille (Paris) depicting the Marquis de Lafayette (1757–1834), hero of two worlds and a major figure in the American and French Revolutions. This model was produced by the Bourdois & Bloch manufactory, identifiable by the presence of the mark of two crossed torches painted in blue under the base. Lafayette is depicted in an officer's uniform, standing with a noble bearing, holding a finely sculpted saber. The polychromy is fresh and vibrant: a blue coat highlighted with red facings, a white waistcoat trimmed with gold braid, gilt epaulettes, a black tricorn hat adorned with a large red cockade, and tall black boots. The details of the face, the braid, and the sword hilt are particularly well-executed, true to the quality of Bourdois & Bloch porcelain. The base, decorated with gilt highlights, bears the inscription "LA FAYETTE".
