A pair of oil-painted wood panels, adorned with graceful winged putti in a turquoise sky, holding long draperies billowing in the wind. The rendering of the flesh tones, the fluidity of the drapery, and the elegance of the movement are fully in keeping with the Neoclassical aesthetic of the late 18th century, strongly influenced by Italy. These two panels originally formed the doors of a piece of furniture—probably a writing desk or a low cabinet—of which the side rabbets remain. The panels retain their original polychromy and display a beautiful antique patina, punctuated by signs of wear that attest to their authenticity.
