Large 19th Century Marble Sculpture By Joseph Cormier Dit Descomps (1869-1950) "nude Model"
Magnificent large marble sculpture signed on the base by Joseph Cormier, known as Descomps, a renowned specialist in female nudes, based in La Charité-sur-Loire, from where he sent bronze and marble sculptures to the Salon starting in 1883. He was a student of Louis Auguste Hiolin and exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member in 1893. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, receiving an honorable mention in 1898, a third medal in 1921, a second medal in 1925, and a first medal in 1928 before being made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. Museums: Paris, Musée National d'Art Moderne (where a similar figure is exhibited), Paris, Petit Palais, and Paris, Musée Galliera, etc.
