Antique Vietnamese Solid Silver Ladies Powder Box, Scholars & Flowers, Nguyễn Dynasty

A beautifully detailed Vietnamese silver cosmetic powder box (seo), dating to the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802–1945), likely late 19th–early 20th century.
Circular in form and richly decorated in relief, the lid shows two scholars seated in a garden beneath a bird in flight, framed by a band of flowers and foliage. The underside features bamboo and chrysanthemums, motifs characteristic of refined Vietnamese silverwork of the period.

These boxes traditionally held seo, the finely milled scented cosmetic powder carried by Vietnamese women.

When I bought it, the interior of the lid contained an old photograph added by a previous owner; originally this space held a small mirror, which can easily be replaced.
Diameter: 5.8 cm.

Condition: Good condition overall. One shallow dent to the side, which could easily be repaired by a professional. No other issues.
