"Pair Of Potpourri Jars In White Marble And Gilt Bronze, Louis XVI Period"
A pair of tripod potpourri stands in white Carrara marble and chased and gilded bronze. The triangular base, resting on a round marble plinth, supports the tripod with twisted uprights ending in eagle heads linked by a corbelled band. The central section, containing the gilded bronze container for dried flowers, herbs, and spices, is inserted into the tripod. The screw-on lid is pierced (with "eyes") to allow fragrance to diffuse. Height: 23 cm. Louis XVI period. Condition report: The set is in good condition. The mercury gilding is original and in excellent condition. There is some wear to the gilding only on the band of the base (due to cleaning), and a tiny crack at the beginning of one of the twisted uprights, along with minor chips.
