"Grenoble, The Old Stone Bridge, 1834. Alexandre Debelle (1805-1897)"
View of the Isère River at Grenoble, the old stone bridge. Dated 1834 at the bottom right. A very similar painting is in the Grenoble Museum, with the same subject, date, and dimensions. Beautiful light; the work perfectly reflects the plein air landscape painting style of around 1830. Alexandre Joseph Michel François Debelle, born in Voreppe (Isère) on December 21, 1805, and died on July 22, 1897 (aged 91) in Grenoble, was a French painter, draftsman, and lithographer.
