19th-century Bronze Bust Of Louise Brongniart After That Of Houdon
This 19th-century French bronze bust depicts Louise Brongniart, daughter of the renowned Neoclassical architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (1739-1813). It is inspired by the original terracotta portrait modeled in 1777 by the celebrated sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon, Bust of Louise Brongniart (1772-1845), now in the Louvre Museum. Houdon's intimate and expressive portraits of Louise and her brother Alexandre enjoyed immense popularity throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, resulting in numerous high-quality reproductions in bronze, terracotta, and plaster.
