A lovely pair of 19th-century crystal and sterling silver ewers. The spherical crystal body is encircled by an openwork mount decorated with foliate scrolls and flowers. The neck is adorned with a frieze of acanthus leaves, extending into a finely molded spout. The twisted handle terminates in foliate scrolls. The circular base is decorated with a frieze of stylized palmettes. Silver hallmark: boar. Maker: Charles Mérite, active between 1869 and 1892. He received medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1878, silver in 1889, and gold in 1889. Height: 24 cm
