Object description :

"Splendor Of Carved Boxwood, 1840: Finely Engraved Scroll Pipe Case"
Beautiful, generously sized pipe case in honey-colored boxwood.
This kind of case was used to protect the fragile clay pipes common mid-19th century. It opens wide to accommodate the long, delicate stems of these pipes, often smoked by soldiers.
These are treens  dating from 1840, touching and heartfelt, from Northern France or Flanders.
Note the superb patina and charming twist of the opening latch.
Overall dimensions: 22cm x 8cm.
Good condition, with a few scratches and stains.
Please examine our photos carefully.
