French School, 18th-19th century. Oil on canvas attributed to Jean-Louis DE MARNE (trace of signature EBG?). A hunter presents his day's catch to two young farm girls, surrounded by farm animals at the edge of a pond, against a backdrop of rolling countryside. Canvas dimensions: 34 x 25 cm. Circa 1800. 19th-century gilt wood and stucco frame with cartouche (Jean-Louis DE MARNE 1744? - 1829). Jean-Louis DE MARNE, an artist born in Belgium (1752-1829), sometimes spelled Demarne or Demarnette, was a French genre painter and engraver. He drew inspiration from contemporaries such as Nicolas Antoine Taunay and Jean-Frederic Schall, Dutch painters fashionable in Paris.
