" Robert Houdin Stereoscopic View Napoleon III "
An extremely rare stereoscopic photograph from the Napoleon III era depicting a scene of illusion during the Second Empire. A magician presents his tricks with his assistant before a select audience. This is undoubtedly Robert Houdin himself, around 1850, when he was 45 years old. The distinguished presence of the audience, the number and quality of the magic props on the table indisputably demonstrate that this is a magician of the highest caliber. The profile in the photograph is exactly the same as that found on the statuette created at the time by Jean-Pierre Dantan (1800-1869). In my opinion, there is no room for doubt. Original photographs of Robert Houdin are extremely rare, especially those of him performing magic tricks. A piece worthy of inclusion in the finest collections.
