Military Gouaches By Maurice Romberg
Artist: Maurice Romberg
Maurice Romberg (1862-1943), a Belgian-French painter and illustrator, is known for his Orientalist and military subjects. He created illustrations for several books, notably for Walter Burton Harris's publication, *Tafilat: The Narrative of a Journey of Exploration to the Atlas Mountains and the Oases of the North-west Sahara*, published in 1895 in Edinburgh and London. He also produced military works, including watercolors and illustrations for postcards, after fighting as a Belgian soldier on the Yser front during the First World War. In 1898, he published *Types de l'Armée belge* (Types of the Belgian Army), a collection of ten color watercolors depicting Belgian uniforms. These four gouache paintings on paper are being sold individually; they are all framed, signed, in excellent condition, and one is dated 1898. Information and additional photos are available upon request.
