Antique ceramic box with floral decoration – Apulian style, 4th century BC.
This antique pyxis (or lekanis) is a fine ceramic, typical of Apulian production in southern Italy. It has a rounded body with two horizontal handles and a lid with a large knob decorated with a painted stylized vegetal motif, alternating palmettes and volutes, executed in black and ochre tones on a light clay background, according to the traditional Italiote ceramic technique.
The object shows traces of calcareous deposits and minor abrasions and losses typical of its age. There is some wear and chips from use, without any visible restoration.
Period: 4th century BC.
Origin: Southern Italy, Apulia region.
Material: Painted terracotta.

Height: 8 cm.
