Isabelle Delecourt, Also Known As Bel Delecourt (1915-2017) - Large Candlesticks
Artist: Isabelle Delecourt Dit Bel Delecourt (1915-2017)
Pair of large white earthenware candlesticks by the artist, signed on the base on the back of each piece. Uncommon. Very good condition. 32 cm high x 10 cm wide x 10 cm deep.
The ceramicist Bel Delecourt was born in Paris in 1915. In 1933, she obtained her degree in commercial engineering. When the Second World War broke out, Bel Delecourt moved to Quimper. She decided to "take a look around" the Henriot earthenware factory. At the same time, she enrolled in evening classes at the École des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts). In 1947, she became one of the artists at the factory. Her works were already appreciated. She sought to create objects that reflected her personality. A baby formula brand launched a competition for its advertising. Bel Delecourt got to work and created an earthenware statuette that would solidify her reputation. Recognized as A ceramicist, she will soon be exhibiting in New York. It's a major breakthrough. Collectors are snapping up her works. In 2011, the Breton Departmental Museum in Quimper dedicated a large-scale exhibition to her.
