"Large 19th Century Painted Canvas"
Large painted canvas known as "succa d'erba" or "grass painting," created with natural pigments (cabbage, walnut shell, saffron) diluted in lemon juice or alum for watercolor effects. It depicts a romantic neoclassical scene. The border imitates a frame decorated with a coat of arms, lion heads, and a cartouche bearing the inscription "White peace is in the fields and leads the virgins to love." Signed and dated lower right. Italy, 19th century
