Pasty medicinal preparation based on scordium Scordium electuary was a compound preparation preserved with honey,
taken from the Galenic and medieval tradition.
Scordium – or water germander – was renowned for its properties:
- Antipyretic (against fever)
- Antidote (against venoms and poisons) -
Cardiotonic and stomachic
- Resolutive (promotes sweating and digestion)
Typical Composition According to the 17th-century Pharmacopoea Parisiensis, scordium electuary contained:
- Scordium (main plant)
- Myrtle, cinnamon, clove
- Rhubarb
- Aloe
- Honey (or sugar) as an excipient Preparation with a paste-like consistency, kept in a hermetically sealed jar
