Painted Majolica Plate. Workshop Of Castelli D’abruzzo, 19th Century.
Hand-painted maiolica plate with pastoral scene, Central Italy, Castelli d’Abruzzo school, first half of the 19th century.
Elegant decorative plate in polychrome maiolica, hand-painted with a lively bucolic scene of Arcadian taste, depicting two young figures reclining in a wooded riverside landscape, sharing a moment of tender intimacy. In the background, an arched bridge and a dense forest enrich the composition, adding depth and perspective to the scene.
The pictorial rendering, characterized by bright colours and fluid brushwork, stands out for its use of cobalt blue, copper green and ochre tones, typical of the 19th-century maiolica tradition of Castelli. The scene, inspired by Renaissance and Mannerist models that made the Castelli workshops famous since the 17th century, reflects the continuity of figurative and decorative taste in Abruzzese production of the time.
The plate, with excellent visual and chromatic impact, retains an even glazed brilliance and a patina consistent with its age, enhancing its artisanal quality.
Very good condition, with minor craquelure and slight wear to the glaze surface, consistent with age.
