"My friend Paul Verlaine"_____________________________Robert Vallin was born in Le Havre. A somewhat disillusioned school experience led him to enlist in the army, and upon his return in September 1889, he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Le Havre. He completed his training in Brussels around 1894, before returning to Paris where, with the encouragement of Jean Moréas and Charles Morice, close friends of Paul Verlaine, he briefly pursued a career as a writer.
