Animal painting, oil on canvas, depicting the return from the hunt, in the style of Jean-François de Portes, an eminent French animal painter, born in 1661, died in 1743.
He was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting in 1699 as an animal painter.
In its composition, this painting, with the spoils of the hunt in the foreground, presented near a basket overflowing with fruit against a forest background, bears a certain resemblance to another work by Jean-François Desportes.
It would appear that the canvas was reduced in length.
