José Marques Campão is a renowned painter who primarily painted landscapes and figures. He was considered one of the leading painters of São Paulo in the 20th century.
He began studying painting at the age of 13 with Oscar Pereira da Silva, a renowned painter and decorator. He then studied in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the Académie Julian, where he took classes with Jean-Paul Laurens and Paul Albert Laurens.
He participated in exhibitions and salons on the national and international art scene. His painting style was marked by a transition between the Impressionist and Realist movements, exploring a similar palette of colors and themes without limiting himself to minor details.
