L. Geyer 1904 Heraldic Plaque Engraved With The Arms Of The City Of Strasbourg Argentoratum
Artist: L. Geyer
Silver-plated copper plaque signed L. Geyer and dated 1904. Large engraved coat of arms of the city of Strasbourg under its ancient name of Argentoratum. It is interesting to consider that this could be an engraving matrix, as the coat of arms is correctly oriented on the plaque. It is likely that this was a commissioned work that the artist wished to sign. Little information is available on L. Geyer, a painter, draftsman, and engraver of German origin active in the second half of the 19th century until the beginning of the 20th. The plaque has partially lost its silver plating and has minor scratches. Any questions are welcome.
