An elegant 17th-century Spanish cabinet (vargueño), finely crafted in walnut and exotic woods. The front features a drop-front that opens to reveal a richly decorated interior with lemonwood marquetry, numerous small drawers, and a secret compartment cleverly concealed within one of them. The original wrought iron fittings, with traces of gilding, are intact, attesting to the authenticity and craftsmanship of this cabinet. The shelf on which it rests is a later addition. This type of cabinet was traditionally used to store documents and precious objects, and represents the pinnacle of Spanish art and refinement during the Baroque period.
