"Fine Bordeaux Earthenware Dinner Service With Nella Decoration Featuring Flowers And Birds, 19th Century"
Exceptional Bordeaux fine earthenware dinner service, Nella pattern, with Japanese-inspired bird and flower motifs on each piece. 124 pieces. Polychrome decorations hand-painted with extreme finesse and shimmering colors. A very harmonious composition featuring birds such as parrots and kingfishers, as well as various insects: butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs, etc. Delicate flowers of water lilies, lotuses, carnations, anemones, prunus, dahlias, roses, and irises. White background highlighted with a cobalt blue border. All in very good condition. Service created by the Bordeaux manufacturer Vieillard & Cie in the 1870s in a harmonious style reminiscent of both 18th-century naturalistic porcelain and Japonisme. The Vieillard & Cie factory is renowned worldwide for its inventiveness and profound understanding of Persian and Japanese graphic arts: its production is characterized by oriental fantasy, landscapes, flowers, and exotic birds. All pieces are marked "JVB" underneath, and the shaped pieces are also marked with the service name "Nella." A true splendor!
