"Sculpture - Vienna Bronze - Orientalism - F. Bergmann"
This Viennese bronze depicts a carpet merchant. The sculpture is painted with cold enamel in polychrome red, green, silver, and gold. The figure, with a full brown beard, wears a turban (cheche), slippers, and a tunic belted in red. This piece is unsigned but, due to its quality of execution, can perhaps be compared to the famous works of Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861-1936), who dedicated himself for many years to creating remarkably realistic Orientalist subjects. The patina is old and therefore shows some minor enamel losses and wear. Late 19th century.
