Jewelry - Silver Brooch Austro-hungarian / Pendant - Art Nouveau
A 925 sterling silver brooch/pendant enameled in white, red, black and blue. The motif depicts a pelican feeding her cygnets. The symbolism of the pelican is representative of Christianity and heraldry, but also of Freemasonry, alchemy, and other mystical traditions.
The nest is suggested by an openwork frame, scrolls and tendrils form a grid upon which turquoise and pearl cabochons are set. The base is composed of four turquoise-set pendant elements and a central motif set with a baroque pearl in an openwork medallion. The swan hallmark is stamped on one of the loops. The brooch pin is missing, and some chips and enamel losses due to wear and age are present (see photos). This is an Austro-Hungarian creation dating from the second half of the 19th century or from the Art Nouveau period. Gross weight: 23 grams
