"Glazed Terracotta Vase By Emile Simonod"
A glazed terracotta vase with yellow and red fruit motifs on a dark blue background and black grid patterns bears the number 66, a signature on the side, and the stamp "FRANCE". Emile Simonod was a complete artist: draftsman, writer, poet, painter, and ceramist. In 1928, he founded SISPA (Societe Industrielle Savoyarde de Poterie Artisanale) to make beauty and utility accessible to all, following in the footsteps of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement. This company employed up to 16 people, but management problems forced it to close in 1940. In the 1930s, Emile Simonod developed a metallization process based on metallic oxides that gave his ceramics a special luster. A true lover of nature and the arts, of Savoy and of Life in general, Simonot then devoted himself to painting and left behind approximately 4000 canvases.
