Pencil And Pastel Painting, Dives-sur-mer. Georges Aldemart Bouet
Georges Aldemard Bouet (1817-1890). Pencil, watercolor, and pastel drawing of the Church of Notre-Dame in Dives-sur-Mer. It is signed lower right G. Bo and located and dated lower left, September 4, 1869. The small format, the precision of the drawing, and the abundance of detail and figures make this painting fascinating. In the foreground, two women in long dresses are walking towards the church entrance. To the right, a crowd stands, perhaps attending a ceremony. To the left, a few parishioners appear to be conversing. The scene is painted in beige, brown, and bluish tones, creating a gentle atmosphere. The sky is neutral, without much contrast, which highlights the building. The square tower is visible in the center, and the small, pointed steeples around the perimeter of the church can be discerned. The drawing has been professionally framed. It measures 14.5 × 8.5 cm without the frame and 22.5 × 16 cm with the frame.
