Silvered bronze statuette of the Tibetan deity Vajrapani. Fine and detailed bronze. Vajrapani is one of the three primary protective deities surrounding the Buddha. He is the manifestation of the Buddha's power. Vajrapani is venerated in Tibetan Buddhism, as well as in many temples in China, Taiwan, and Japan, as a protector of the Dharma, guarding the gates of monasteries and temples. Vajrapani means "the bearer of the Vajra" in Sanskrit, referring to the Vajra he holds in his right hand.
