Very elegant pair of Louis XV period cane-backed chairs, in solid oak with a waxed patina, stamped Falconnet. Our two seats rest on four legs, each with a graceful curve ending in a scroll. The upper part of the two front legs is decorated with a pretty carved falling motif representing stems and flowers. The belt has three sides entirely fretted and hemmed with a fine molding, the front is completed with a pretty work of flowering branches. The backrests are flat, the upper crosspieces are curved, decorated in the center with the same motif of flowering branches as the front crosspiece of the seat. They also feature lovely acanthus scroll work on the shoulder. The lower crossbars of the backrest are shaped like an accolade. The seat and backrest are caned, the whole is in good condition, each seat bears under the back of the seat at the level of the rear crossbar the stamp "FALCONNET" of the famous cabinetmaker to whom we owe remarkable works. Pierre Falconet born in 1683 practiced rue de Clercy under the name of "La Fidélité" between 1738 and 1750. He was succeeded by his son Louis, who obtained his master's letters in 1743.
