Michelle Mahé And André Cazenave 2 Pairs Of Wall Lights, Coquilles Model
Artist: Michelle Mahé Et Andrecazenave
2 pairs of wall lights that can be sold separately. All have fine cracks. Artist and designer André Cazenave (1928-2003) is an iconic figure in French design from the 1960s and 1970s. He worked at Atelier A, known for its lighting creations inspired by nature. Among his most sought-after works is the “Coqui” model, a wall light in the shape of a shell. This model, produced in the 1960s, perfectly embodies Cazenave’s poetic approach: uniting light and material. Made of resin and marble powder, the “Coqui” wall lights diffuse a soft, organic light, reminiscent of the pearly glow of a seashell. Their grainy texture and rounded shape evoke pebbles and coral, themes dear to the artist. Cazenave sought to recreate, in the light object, the natural emotion of mineral and marine forms. His creations, halfway between sculpture and lighting, are today considered icons of vintage French design. The “Coqui” model has been presented in several specialized galleries, notably the Galerie Canavese in Paris. It can also be found in the catalogs of 1stdibs and Quittenbaum Design Auctions, proof of its rarity and value on the international market. These wall lights are highly sought after for their timeless elegance and enveloping light. They fit equally well in a contemporary interior as in a more classic decor. Each piece is unique: the material and the artisanal molding create slight variations in texture.
