Large armchair with simple molding. It rests on four curved legs ending in scrolls or “slippers.” Scalloped belt, whip-shaped armrests, and curved upper backrest.
Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot (1706-1776)
One of the greatest cabinetmakers of the Louis XV era. A supplier to the Crown, he surrounded himself with the best sculptors, such as Babel, Dupré, and his nephew.
A royal model
During the reign of Louis XV, Foliot made several important deliveries of simple but dignified and elegant furniture. Rare examples are now preserved at the Mobilier National in Versailles and the J. Paul Getty Museum. The American institution has a pair of armchairs very similar to ours.
