Accolay Pitcher In Brown Glazed Stoneware, Incised Geometric Decoration – Circa 1960
Imposing stoneware pitcher signed Accolay. Typical production of the 1950s-1960s, a time when Accolay potters experimented with large utilitarian forms and glazes rich in metallic oxides. The slightly narrowed cylindrical body is punctuated by a decoration of turned striations and two raised bands with semi-circular motifs. Golden brown enamel with black highlights, both deep and satiny, revealing in places the underlying red earth. Wide and ergonomic handle, pouring spout formed in the mass. Handwritten Accolay mark under the base. A piece of beautiful presence, emblematic of the post-war French ceramic movement, between art and craft.
